Dear Bhavin  My email id is amita.jain@careers360.com However there is a suggestion I would like to give at this point, in case of queries pertaining to medical admissions, it is always better to post them on Careers360 QnA platform since it will help you to get all sets of opinions from people practising in this field, students, etc. Also, just in case I make a human error of providing incomplete information, others can pour in their views and complete the information. I hope you understand. Thanks.

Dear Bhavin

Since your daughter is studying Class 12 from outside India and must have been residing outside for more than 185 days (as stipulated by FEMA in order to categorize one as an NRI), you should select NRI in nationality.

NRI category people have Indian passports but they reside outside India for purposes such as employment, business, etc.

Besides that, in any way, a candidate irrespective of his/her category will first be considered for admission under the general category (open to all) on the basis of merit and their All India Rank (AIR), before one is considered for admission in his/her respective categories.

So, by putting NRI, you will be able to claim admission on the general seat (depending upon merit rank), while NRI category will also be open for your daughter.

I hope the answer helps! All the best!

Its my pleasure Bhavin. Besides above all things, I would like to tell here that you should make sure that you have the documents in place to prove your claims under NRI category. Although states have their separate documents' requirements, some documents which you may be asked to produce include to prove NRI claims: PassportCandidate's study certificate for having studied outside India where applicable for the qualifying examination.Parents' resident certificate issued by the Embassy of that country complying with the Income Tax Rules / any other certificates to establish evidence that they are resident of that country. NRI certificateIn some states you may be required to produce only some of above stated docs, etc. In case you have any follow up questions with regards to a particular state's admission under NRI category, feel free to ask. Good Luck.
