With this rank it will be very difficult for him to get any of NITs, IIITs or GFTIs although if he has the advantage of home state he might be able to get admission in some NIT or GFTI. Otherwise he should focus towards other government and private colleges or he can take a drop and prepare for JEE. Hope this helps.
