You should have asked for the original copy and gave the xerox copy instead.  At any place, You shouldn't give your original copy as if it is lost or taken then it is very hard to get another original copy.

There is no way now. If it taken then go and make a new one. Write an application and mention under what circumstances you lost it and submit it to the authority. They will help you or guide you how to get an original copy.

it will take time but you will get it. Keep safe all the original documents with you and never submit it rather submit a xerox copy and show original for verification.
