At first lots of congratulations for your son's results . You have mentioned that your son is from general category. According to trends of previous years and this year's JEE MAIN cut off I am afraid to inform you that your son's chances of getting admission into colleges NIT's and IIT's are almost negative. However Your son can try in state level counselling and private colleges .  But if your son has any other category rank like ST , SC , OBC there may be chance for him .One thing is very important that admission in those above mentioned categories entirely depend  upon that particular category rank , not the All India rank.
