A research  internship is usually undertaken in the final year of graduation or post-graduation.You must have a resaerch project of your own for these kind of internships.

You can try connecting with like minded people like you, those who have done this before, attend seminars, workshops etc. where you will meet new people with similar interests who can help you connect with professors and will also help you have a clearer picture of the field.

Another way is by emailing the professor. Find out about his/her work in their fields, their papers. See how you interest match with theirs.Send them a email with all the thingsyou want to do.Add relevant experience you have.

Another way is going through internship programs.Check out some colleges/universities which provide them and try to contact them for more info.

i suggest you to check that website, because it has been collobarate with many companies and top companies will also use that platform for their interns recruitment.
