Hello,

After finishing your 12th grade, taking the polytechnic entrance exam allows you to apply for a Diploma in Architecture, a 3-year program provided by numerous polytechnic colleges throughout India. The necessary percentage in 12th grade differs by state, but typically, a minimum of 50% marks is needed, particularly in subjects such as Mathematics and Science. As you are joining after the 12th grade, certain states or institutions might provide lateral entry into the second year of the diploma course, potentially allowing you to save one year.

Upon finishing the diploma, you can advance to a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) via lateral entry at specific institutions, or by taking the NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) or other pertinent entrance examinations. To obtain licensure as an architect, you must complete the entire B.Arch program from a COA-recognized institution, as only a B.Arch degree allows you to register with the Council of Architecture (COA), India.

Regarding the course's challenge — architecture needs creativity and technicality. It includes sketching, creating designs, arranging space, knowledge of materials, fundamental engineering concepts, and programs such as AutoCAD. Although it may seem difficult but if you have a strong passion for creating buildings and are ready to put in consistent effort, it is absolutely feasible and highly rewarding.

Hope this helps. All the best!

hi,

Yes, you can take the polytechnic entrance exam after 12th if you want to study a diploma in architecture. Most polytechnic courses just need you to pass class 10 or 12. You don’t need a very high percentage, just a passing mark and clearing the entrance exam is usually enough. If you do a polytechnic diploma in architecture, you can work as an architectural assistant or technician, but you cannot officially call yourself an "architect" unless you complete a B.Arch degree from a COA-approved college.
