Both are really different and it depends on in which you are interested in. The scope in both the field has equal. If you study well in anyone of these and have a good result believe me other one will have no scope.

While the course structure of production engineering is much similar to mechanical engineering mettalurgy is a different branch concerned with the study of metals and minerals. Through production engineering you can go in mechanical engineering related jobs whereas metallurgy also provides scope but it is usually in remote locations with a good package. Hope this helps.

Metallurgical Engineering is a broad field of engineering that deals with all sorts of metal-related areas.


It is branch of engineering that deals with a study of science of metals and their properties, including separating metals from their ores, the making and compounding of alloys, and the technology and science of working and heat-treating metals to alter their physical characteristics.


Metallurgical Engineers can become a part of the industry that produces, buys, sells refines or manufactures metals or metallic products. In India metallurgical graduates can expect some exciting career opportunities in government undertakings as well as in private companies.


One can also be a research fellow or a scientist or professor in various labs and universities located in India and abroad.Apart from the traditional metallurgical jobs, Metallurgical Engineering also has scope in defense, aviation , and nano science.


Even quasicrystals were discovered here! Last year’s noble prize for chemistry went to researcher in this area. You can also go for research abroad if you have decent research credentials.
