For candidates seeking admission in IITs, NITs the minimum aggregate marks should be 75% in CBSE board. And for SC, ST category the minimum aggregate marks are relaxed to 65%. Candidates are eligible to give JEE Mains despite their low marks however they are not eligible for admission in IITs and NITs.

if you are talking about engineering colleges then top engineering colleges like IIT NIT and other Central funded institutes require minimum 75 percentage or among the top 20 percentile of that board to be eligible to take admission in that college apart from good rank in JEE main for JEE advanced in case of IIT.
