As per your query yes you can get admission in some colleges based upon your class 12th marks. For this type of admissions usually colleges prefer students with good percentage i.e. greater than 85%. JEE Examination is for national level government institutes like IIT, NIT, IIIT, CFTI as well as Top private institutions like Thapar, LNMIIT, etc. Colleges which give admission based on class 12 marks conduct their own entrance exam on basis of which they give admission.

According to your question, it totally depends on which college you are aiming for. There are colleges that conduct admission based on only jee score and there are colleges that conduct admission based on 12th performance. For example , if you want to get into NITs, then you need to have a good score in JEE. Whereas on the other hand Delhi's Shiv Nadar University takes you in with your performance in class 12 boards also along with an aptitude test. I think you should try maintaining a good score in boards and a good mains score since some of the Colleges set the boards marks as the criteria . Hope this helps.
