Congratulations as you have scored a great rank in IIT JEE advanced results and your query is you are confused that what next you want to do. I would like to tell you that if you are sure that after taking a year gap you can score a higher rank in next year then and you can take a gap but I think it's better not to take any chance and you can apply for various top other private or government engineering colleges since your rank is high but not under 10,000 so you won't get a nice or suitable IIT as per your expectations but you make it an NIT so you can apply for that or you can apply for some other private or government colleges.
