The Department of School and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), Government of India awards NMMS Scholarship to meritorious students of economically weaker backgrounds. The scholarship is awarded to prevent the student's dropout at Class 8 and encourage them to complete their secondary education.

To apply for the scholarship, a candidate must appear for the exam and after qualifying the exam and selection, he/she is required to open Joint account with Parents in State Bank of India. 

The state identifies the awardees before handing the list of beneficiaries to SBI for payment of scholarship amount.

Scholarship is generally paid to awardees on quarterly basis (Rs. 1500/- each quarter) by SBI after getting the list from each state.
