Every year cutoff changes, but to be on the safer side for getting a seat in top NITs in top streams, so considering your category, rank should be within 1100. For other branches a decent rank within 3000 is ok. But should always set a goal for a better rank. Below 6000-8000  chances becomes less to get into top NITs. Then you will have chances of getting into other NITs like NIT Goa, NIT Hamirpur, NIT Jalandhar, NIT Patna, NIT Durgapur and other NITs of northeastern states.
