your academic background matters but more than that your percentile in CAT entrance exam matters so for getting admission in IIM's you have to score more than 99%ile and clear their GD/PI round as well with good performance

CAT is a biggest mamgement test conducted by IIMs once in year in November or December.  

Eligibility 

Bachelor's degree with atleast 50% marks or equvalent CGPA and 45% for ST, ST DA categories.

Or

Should be in the final year of graduate degree

For expecting call from Top colleges you need to score with a percentile between 99.9-95.
