Hello,

Ohm's Law Statement

Ohm's Law states that the current (I) passing through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage (V) across the two points, given that the temperature and other physical conditions are kept constant. Mathematically, it is represented as:

V=I⋅R

Where:

V = Voltage (Volts)

I = Current (Amperes)

R = Resistance (Ohms)

  • Activity to Verify Ohm's Law

Materials Needed:

  • Resistor
  • Ammeter
  • Voltmeter
  • Battery or power supply
  • Rheostat (variable resistor)
  • Connecting wires
  • Switch

Procedure:

  • Setup the Circuit:
  1. Connect the resistor in series with the ammeter and the battery.
  2. Connect the voltmeter in parallel with the resistor.
  3. Add a rheostat to the circuit such that the current may be varied.
  • Experiment:
  1. Close the circuit with the switch.
  2. Adjust the rheostat to vary the current through the circuit.
  3. For each setting, record the current (I) measured by the ammeter and the voltage (V) measured by the voltmeter.

Record Observations:

  1. Tabulate the values of voltage and current for various settings.

Plot a Graph:

Plot a graph of  V (y-axis) against I (x-axis).

  • Analyze Results:

The graph should be a straight line passing through the origin, confirming V∝I, and the slope of the line gives the resistance (R).

Explanation:

The straight-line graph confirms Ohm's Law since it indicates that the voltage and current are directly proportional for the given resistor. Any deviation could be attributed to resistance changes due to heating effects.

Ohm's las states that the potential difference or voltage between two points is directly proportional to current or electricity passing through the resistance and directly proportional to the resistance of the circuit.

The ohm's law can be expressed as V = IR

V = voltage. I = current. R = resistance

The law helps to calculate power, efficiency, voltage and resistance of the circuit.

The law can be verified by performing a simple activity.

. Connect a 1.5 volt battery with a bulb . And also connect ammeter and voltmeter in circuit to measure current and voltage and record the data.

. Now connect two 1.5 volt battery in the circuit and note down ammeter and voltmeter reading.

. Now, connect three 1.5 volt battery in the circuit and note down ammeter and voltmeter reading. Notice the difference in the intensity of bulb.

. Now connect four 1.5 volt battery in the circuit and note down ammeter and voltmeter reading.

Draw the graph for the ready and you will get a straight line that shows potential difference is directly proportional to current.
