He was the son of well-known businessman Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata and is commonly referred to as the Father of Indian Aviation. He was India's first pilot to receive a license in 1929. On February 10th, 1929, J. R. D. Tata obtained his commercial pilot's license, making him the first Indian citizen to do so.
