Hi Dhiru,

Valency is the combining power of an element, especially as measured by the number of hydrogen atoms it can displace or combine with.

From the given data it can be certainly said that the element is Sodium (Na)

Therefore by losing 1 electron Na can get noble gas configuration corresponding to Neon (Ne). Therefore, the valency is 1.

Dear candidate,

Greetings.

That would be sodium (Na)with a electronic structure of 2.8.1,and since it needs to lose 1 electron to get into a stable configuration/noble gas configuration and have the EC of 2.8. Therefore, it has a valency of one (1).

Thank you!

Metals are know to accept pairs of electrons so usually all the metal have their valency in "+" and according to the configuration of Na i. e is Sodium electrons in its outermost orbit is 1, its valency is +1.
