No the rank is not depend how much students give the examination. It's always depends how much marks get the students. What's the Highest marks then it will be define the examination cutoff. So if you want to good rank you forget the students number. You have to concentrate on your study. And give your best in examination. We will be get good rank dear.

Rank =((100-your percentile)/100)*number of unique student appeared. Based on that I said better rank if less students write exam
