It is not compulsory to take Computer science as optional in intermediate to take admission in CSE branch. But If you opt for Computer science as optional subject in class 12th It will definitely help you In 1st year of your colleg as most of your basic concept would be clear in class 12th itself. In first year C language is one of subjects . In class 12th You will learn C++ which will give you an advantage over other students.

for computer science engineering it is not compulsory to take computer science as your bifocal subjects in 11th & 12th .

but if you take this subjects some basics will be cleared about c and c++ .

   It is not at all compulsory to study computer science in 11th and 12th class. You can get admission in B.tech Computer science engineering without studying CS in school. But it is not recommended if you are really passionate to choose a career in computer science engineering. It will be little hard to start from basics in college. It will be an added advantage for if do computer science in school. You can pickup hard things easily and rapidly during Engineering. I hope I answered your question.
