The NID DAT examination is generally conducted in two parts, and together they carry a total of 100 marks. The Prelims paper usually accounts for 100 marks on its own and includes a mix of objective questions that test general awareness, observation and visual ability, along with subjective or drawing-based questions that assess creativity and problem-solving skills. The Mains stage focuses more on hands-on design tasks, studio tests or interviews, depending on the programme. While the internal evaluation pattern of the Mains can vary, the standard reference point for students is that the written Prelims paper is marked out of 100. Overall, candidates are assessed on idea quality, originality, observation skills, design thinking and execution, and the combined performance across both stages determines final selection.
