Hello Aspirant
.
.M.Tech from IIT is good for Computer science & Electrical people who want to get good jobs (above 10 lacs per annum). For all other branches like mechanical, civil, aerospace, energy science & interdisciplinary branches, there is a lot of struggle to get good jobs (most of them below 10 lacs), and its difficult to indulge in research because of hectic syllabus, lack of time, lack of world-class facilities as well as a lot of time goes in preparation of placements.

  • Except for computer science & electrical, Masters at IIT is not lucrative for other branches & one should try to get a PSU or government job based on GATE Score
  • Your idea of benefit may fit into any one or all of the below mentioned categories:
  • Placements with good profile/packages.
  • Good research which may land you in a good foreign PhD.
  • Good research and you may want to continue with a PhD here in India.
  • Good research and want to land up in a government research job like NAL/ISRO and the like
If you have any questions further let me know.
Thank you!!!!

Hello aspirant

Yes of course there are many benefits of doing M.Tech from IITs . As far as academics are concerned no doubt you will have an upper hand.

Now coming to the point for what reason do want to pursue M.Tech. From my point of view it could be either for higher studies or for jobs. The other case might be that you are not sure what to do in your life.

If it is for higher studies definitely go for it as it will improve your chances of doing doctorate from renowned colleges of India and abroad. For e.g. if you are planning to do GRE you will get a good SOPs and with decent score and published paper your chance of getting good universities with scholarships will improve. Believe me its a very good career and the scholarship abroad will be enough to take care of you very well.

Now if you want to join it with job perspective then you have to be selective in deciding your stream and IITs. Old IITs have better placement records compared to the newer ones. The placement of interdisciplinary branch are not good so I wont recommend if you just want to do your M.Tech for job. Also look for the stream which are in demand in industries like for mechanical it is Machine Design, CAD/CAM etc.

Now coming to the third case if you are not sure and you are getting anxious and frustrated by your neighbors and relatives remarks and you just want to join M.Tech at IIT for preparation and stipend case than look for those IITs where load is less and you can prepare comfortably.

Hope this information is helpful

Thank you
