To get admission into ECE you don't need to have prior computer related skills,  just a basic of operating a computer is enough..

If you get placed in core companies related to software then

Learn the basics understanding of  operating systems like Windows, Linux/Ubuntu and others

Learn programming language like C, c++ , core Java

Learn JavaScript, do learn.

I guess that's enough knowledge for a ECE student to enter the field of computer.

There are others subjects which are already included in your course like digital logics, networks, microprocessors and controllers.
