What are the exams given for m.tech to get top colleges?

Some of the exams you will be required to give to study Mtech in India are:

  • GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) for M.Tech and PhD programmes: It is a national level examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IIS) and IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board. By appearing for this exam, candidates can seek admissions to M. Tech programmes, offered by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). GATE is conducted every year during the month of January.
  • IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc): It is a qualifying exam for M.Sc, Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, M.Sc.-M.Tech, and other PG programmes at IITs and IISc. It is conducted by IIT Madras every year in the month of June. To be able to apply to this entrance examination, it is important that a candidate has a Bechelor’s degree with at least 55% aggregate marks taking into account all the subjects.
  • UPES MEET (UPES M.Tech Engineering Entrance Test): UPES MEET is an online test, conducted by UPES (University of Petroleum and Energy Studies) for M.Tech admissions. Students who have a valid GATE scores can get a direct admissions, but others need to appear for the exam to be able to qualify for admissions. UPES MEET is usually conducted in three phases, which is held in the months of February to June every year.
  • TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test): It is conducted by Anna University, for admissions to M.Tech, M.E., M.Arch., M.Plan., M.B.A, and M.C.A., offered at the University. The exam is usually held in the month of June every year.
  • GITAM GAT is an entrance examination, conducted by Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM), for admissions to various graduate as well as post graduate programmes including M.Tech. GAT is usually held in the month of May and June and through it, students can seek admissions to different professional programmes.
  • IPU CET (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University): IPU CET is a common entrance test, conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) for various UG and PG programmes including M.Tech.
  • WBUT PGET (West Bengal University of Technology Post Graduate Entrance Test): It is a state level examination, conducted and coordinated by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (also known as West Bengal University of Technology). By appearing for WBUT PGET, candidates can seek admissions to M.Tech programmes, offered by the University. Students who have valid GATE scores too can appear for this entrance examination. WBUT PGET is usually conducted in the month of July every year.

There is  Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) entrance exam for M.Tech Admissions offered across IITs, NITs and other leading centrally funded institutes. Apart from the biggest PG engineering entrance exam in India, there are many other well-known private universities that hold their own entrance test for PG admissions. Most of the states accept GATE scores of candidates for M.Tech admissions, while some conduct entrance exams for the same.
