For studying in the USA and for working the Visas available would be. 

Students applying for a program in which they are required to study for at least 18 hours of study in a single week require an F1 visa. This will be inclusive of all undergraduate programs as well as graduate programs like MS, MBA, etc.

Now any spouses or children accompanying these F-1 visa students will be required to travel on an F-2 visa. Now these Spouses or Children cannot work on this F-2 visa but can apply for their own visa in order to study or work, etc. 

The M1 visa is another student visa which is actually reserved for vocational and technical schools wherein the student shall apply. The process for this M1 visa is almost similar to the procedure of F-1visa with the only difference being that the M1 visas require the person to stay for a definite period of time which they cannot overstay. These visas are time stamped on arrival.

If you work on your student visa then certain guidelines are to be kept in mind.

During their initial study period, say the starting year, students cannot work off-campus jobs. In other words they cannot accept off-campus employments. They cannot be working for more than 20 hours per week and not more than 40 hours during holidays or breaks. Students can work for employers that provide services to their colleges like in the cafeteria or gymnasium suppliers, etc.
