Benzene is an organic chemical compound with the molecular formula C 6 H 6 . The benzene molecule is composed of six carbon atoms joined in a ring with one hydrogen atom attached to each. As it contains only carbon and hydrogen atoms, benzene is classed as a hydrocarbon. It belongs to aromatic hydrocarbon group. In other words, Benzene (C 6 H 6 ), simplest organic, aromatic hydrocarbon and parent compound of numerous important aromatic compounds.

It have many various characteristics, making it very essential hydrocarbon of study. Here are its general charecteristics.

Benzene is a colourless liquid with a characteristic odour and is primarily used in the production of polystyrene. It is highly toxic and is a known carcinogen; exposure to it may cause leukemia.
