Masters degree is the degree which one pursues after graduation. First the candidate  after 10+2 gets a undergraduate degree. Then after undergraduate, the candidate can obtain postgraduation course. In masters degree the candidate does specilization in any one subject of his interest from graduate level programme. 

For example if suppose the student after 12 std does Engineering, say mechanical engineering, then at the master level he can opt for thermal, design, production etc. This are specilazed course. In graduate level the student studies all the core subject in that field. Then at Masters level he selects one core subject among them and studies in depth and detail about it.
