The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC) for determining the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Eligibility of Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship or both, for Indian Universities and Colleges.

It is usually conducted twice every year.

Applicants with the Master's degree in Humanities and Social Sciences (including languages), Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, etc. with a minimum of 55% marks from UGC-recognized universities/institutions or equivalents are eligible to apply for UGC NET 2021.

The upper age limit is 30 years of age for JRF whereas There is no age limit for candidates who are applying for Assistant Professor.
