Information on Process of Admission for NRI/NRI Sponsored Category Seats in the BA-LLB Programme

(1) The interested eligible non-resident Indian candidates are required to apply through CLAT-2019 for the seats advertised in CLAT-2019 Brochure for NRI/NRI Sponsored category.

(2) On declaration of results, candidates who have applied through CLAT-2019 for the seats advertised for NRI/NRI Sponsored category shall be invited to apply online for the NRI/NRI Sponsored category at WBNUJS and submit the supporting documents online.

(3) Based on their Rank in the CLAT 2019 Merit List, candidates shall be shortlisted for the NRI/NRI Sponsored category at WBNUJS from amongst those who apply online under (2).

(4) Such admission shall be subject to the outcome of Writ Petition (Civil) No. 600/2015 pending before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

(5) If no NRI/NRI sponsored candidates is available on the last date of admission, then the remaining vacant seats shall be filled on the basis of merit treating the vacant seats as unreserved seats.

(6) The eligible candidates interested in seeking admission against NRI seats, shall be required to submit following documents at the time of applying to WBNUJS under point (2) above:-

a. Marksheet of qualifying examination. If the Board/University from which candidate has passed his qualifying examination award marks in grade system, then the formula for conversion of grade into marks that country.

b. Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from a county other than India] are required to submit a certificate from the Indian Embassy/Indian Consulate or Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi to the effect that the examination passed is equivalent to the qualifying examination of Indian System;

c. Proof of nationality; d. An affidavit duly notarised in the country where the non-resident Indian/PIO/OCI is residing to the effect that the Father/Mother/Guardian/Sponsor (as the case may be is a non-resident Indian/PIO/OCI;

e. A self-attested true copy of the passport

f. Transfer and Character certificate from the Institution last attended

g. In case where the guardian of the candidates is the NRI/PIO/OCI, an affidavit duly notarised in the country where the non-resident Indian/PIO/OCI is residing to the effect that he/she is the legal guardian of the candidate.

Persons Eligible for admission to Seats in the NRI/NRI-Sponsored Category:

A Candidate who has applied through CLAT-2019 for the seats advertised in CLAT-2019 Brochure for NRI/NRI Sponsored category AND

a) who is a NRI/ PIO / OCI or

b) who is a daughter or son of a NRI / PIO / OCI, or

c) whose legal guardian is a NRI / PIO / OCI or

d) who is sponsored by a NRI/ PIO/ OCI who has bona fide interest in candidate’s education.

Definitions

a) NRI means a Non-Resident Indian as per the definition given in the section 6 of the Income Tax Act 1961.

b) PIO means a person who has been issued a Person of Indian Origin Card (PIO Card) under the Persons of Indian Origin Card Scheme

c) OCI means a person registered as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Cardholder under section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955

Annexure- A DECLARATION BY THE CANDIDATE I, _________________, hereby declare that all the particulars stated in this application and enclosures are true to the best of my knowledge and belief. I have read the information Brochure and I shall abide by the terms and conditions therein. In the event of being found ineligible at any time during the course, my admission will be cancelled.
