Study certificate is a certificate that reflects or shows that a candidate has studied in Karnataka for at least 7 years from your class 1 to class 12th or qualifying examination issued by Head of the institution.

Now coming to why do you need study certificate I would say that you need study certificate for kcet because as per eligibility criteria of KCET , to be eligible for writing KCET examination you should have studied in karnataka for a minimum period of 7 years, starting from 1st standard to your class 12th as on July 1 of the exam year to be eligible for writing kcet examination
i .e 1st July 2020 in case of KCET 2020.
