Organisms are classified into similar categories namely kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and species.

Plant Taxonomy is a branch of science that continues to change as new species are being found almost every day. Plants are classified into a separate kingdom called the Kingdom Plantae. This current system of classification of plants is based on the evolutionary relationship amid other plants. There are two categories namely Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.

Taxonomy

It is in a broad sense the science of classification, but more strictly the classification of living and extinct organisms that is biological classification.

The term is derived from the Greek taxis (“arrangement”) and nomos (“law”) .

TYPES -

There are eight distinct taxonomic categories. These are

Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species. With each step down in classification, organisms are split into more and more specific groups.
