Hi Imran,

The atomic number of carbon (symbol is C) is 6. It is non-metallic tetravalent element. It has four electrons available in the outermost surface to create covalent chemical bonds. It belongs to 14th group in the periodic table. It's oxidation state is mildly acidic oxide.
