Hello Nagendra,

Mechatronics engineering is a multidisciplinary branch of engineering that focuses on the engineering of both electrical and mechanical systems. It focuses on different aspects of mechatronics like modeling, real-time computer interfacing, sensors, controllers and actuators. After completing the course graduates can work on different aspects like sensing and control systems, automation and robotics, artificial intelligence and expert systems, transportation and vehicular systems and computer integrated manufacturing systems. Being a specialized field, undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses in Mechatronics are offered by few technical colleges

 Undergraduate programmes in mechatronics-

B.E. Mechatronics Engineering

B.Tech. in Mechatronics Engineering

Top Institutes-

1. Manipal University, Manipal

2. Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University

3. Vinayaka Missions University

4. Delhi Institute of Tool Engineering

5. SRM University

6. Symbiosis University

Apart from these institutes IITs and VIT offer M.Tech in Mechatronics Engineering

MECHATRONICS ENGINEERING (LATERAL ENTRY)

Lateral entry is for those students who join in the 2nd year of the course rather than 1st.

In some situations when a person is taking admission to a college, he/she may enter at a later stage for example someone would maybe start college from the second year of the actual course mainly due to two reason- their high school structure was that of a diploma format rather than the normal high school format (12th class in India) and also if they're changing colleges mid-course to go to another college offering the same course provided that both the colleges teach the same stuff in the elapsed time.

Eligibility for lateral entry in B.Tech Mechatronics-

Pass with 60% aggregate marks in Diploma (Engg.) (any stream) 3 years after 10th or 2 yrs. after 10+2(Non-Medical) or B.Sc.(Non-Medical) or B.Sc.(Computer Science) or equivalent.

JOB PROSPECTS OF MECHATRONICS ENGINEERING-

Computer System Analyst, Researcher, Robotics Test Engineer, Application Engineer, Supervisor, PLC Maintenance, Industrial Robots (Operation and Maintenance), etc.

I hope this helps. If you have any other doubt or query, feel free to ask.

All the best!
