Dear student,

You got confused with two completely different terms by interrelating them in your mind.

See, State quota means that, lets suppose there is a college in your homestate and since it is in your state so for obvious reason the priority for admission will be given to you and those students only who belongs to your state than the students who are from other state.

And for this, college administration or government have kept some of the seats reserved for homestate students and in any case it should be given to homestate only no matter how low the cutoff goes to fulfil those reserved seats by homestate students.

So this is what called state quota, if you take that reserved seat on the basis of Homestate reservation then it will be called that you availed state quota.

Now coming to your second term which is general quota, see this is the category of students seats, which has no reservation. As the name suggest, it is for general category students. Any student who do not enjoy caste based reserevation comes under General quota.

I hope this information helps you.

All the very best!!
