If you want to become an astrophysicist in ISRO after 12th, the simple pathway is to first take science with Physics and Mathematics in 12th, then go for a B.Sc. in Physics or related subject. After that, do M.Sc. in Physics/Astrophysics and then Ph.D. in Astrophysics, Astronomy, or Space Science. ISRO usually recruits astrophysicists through research institutions, Ph.D. scholars, or exams like JEST, GATE, CSIR UGC NET.

If you completed your 12th with science stream like a physics chemistry after you should take BTech or be in our a aeronautical engineering or any other space related study after graduation you can do masters degree then if you have chance complete PHD then apply to the icrb exam in the ISRO portal while you are studying you can do internship and research this will add advantage in your career

Hello

To become an astrophysicist in ISRO after 12th, choose the Science stream (PCM) and aim for top marks. Then, pursue a B.Sc. in Physics or B. Tech. in Aerospace/Physics-related fields from a reputed college. Follow it with an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Astrophysics or Space Science. Keep an eye on ISRO’s recruitment through IIRS, SAC, or direct scientist posts. Strong research, good academics, and entrance exams like JEST, GATE, or NET can open doors to ISRO’s astrophysics roles.

After 12th, the most straightforward path to become an astrophysicist in ISRO is:

  1. Choose PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Math) in 12th.

  2. Clear JEE Main & Advanced → join IIT/NIT/ISI/IISER for B.Sc. Physics or B.Tech in Engineering Physics/ Aerospace/ Avionics/ Physics-related branches.

  3. After graduation, pursue M.Sc. Physics / Astrophysics or M.Tech in Astronomy/Space Science from reputed institutes like IISc, IITs, IUCAA, IIST, or IISER.

  4. Do a PhD in Astrophysics/Space Science from top institutes (IUCAA, TIFR, IIST, IISc).

  5. Apply to ISRO through ISRO Centralised Recruitment (ICRB) or join via research collaborations after PhD.

Shortcut: Join IIST (Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology) after JEE Advanced. It’s directly under ISRO, and toppers are absorbed into ISRO.

Hello Aspirant,

If you would like to pursue a career in ISRO as astrophysicists after 12th grade, the first step would be getting a B.Sc. in Physics or Mathematics, or B.E / B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering. The next step would be to pursue your Master's degree; you can do a M.Sc. in Physics or Astrophysics, or a M.Tech in one of the other fields as listed above; it's also preferred that you also do a Ph.D. in Astrophysics or Space Science If available. ISRO hires heir subcategories are through ISRO Centralized Recruitment Board (ICRB) or through other institutes such as IUCAA, IIA, PRL. Research skills in general, are a huge plus, especially if you choose to pursue higher studies.
