THE PIER IS CONSIDERED STABLE WHEN THE BASE FALLS WITHIN THE MIDDLE THIRD AND THE MAXIMUM SOIL PRESSURE DOES NOT EXCEED SOME PRESUMPTIVE UNIT VALUE, WHICH IS CONSIDERED TO BE SAFE FOR THE GIVEN SOIL.
