Hi Yamini,

Paid Seat in private colleges refers to non-merit based seats. In most of the Indian State/National Government schemes, the government offers seats in colleges for those students who have a good score. These seats are offered at a lower rate, often called as “Government Rate”. But for those who don’t have a good score but want to get an admission in any private college, the colleges offer seats to the students by receiving a certain extra pay from them, than the amount that is charged for merit students. This amount varies proportionally to the popularity of the college. It may be in lakhs to crores of rupees. The more popular a college is, the more amount you need to pay. This is called as paid seat, sometimes also called “Management Seat”.
