Hello bhavana, according to laws of the state, 17% of the seats are reserved for the backward classes in the state medical,engineering, pg and other disciplines in state government colleges.

This 17% is further is further divided in two parts:-

1. OBC-A — 10%
2. OBC-B — 7%

But the actual scenario is completely different, if one sees the actual seats as per official records in previous counsellings which are reserved for the backward classes in medical and engineering of west Bengal is much less than 17%. According to the mandate of the hon'ble high court the general category seats must not be affected due to the newly included OBC reservation.This would mean that the seats need to be increased to provide 17% reservation to the OBC as per rules.But the no. Of seats are the same as was earlier and hence compromise is being done to the OBC category seats.
