Hello,

The rudimentary lateral thyroid develops from the neural crest cells, while the median thyroid, which forms the bulk of the gland, arises from the primitive pharynx. The thyroid gland mainly forms as a proliferation of the endodermal epithelial cells on the median surface of the developing pharyngeal floor. The thyroid gland is a vital hormone gland that plays a major role in the metabolism, growth and development of the human body. It helps to regulate the main body functions by constantly releasing a steady amount of thyroid hormones into the bloodstream.

Hope this helps you.
