When Grignard reagents, CH₃MgBr reacts with CO₂ and water to form ethanoic acid. That is the reaction of the Grignard reagent with CO₂ result in the formation of carboxylic acids. The following reaction shows the reaction of CH3MgBr with carbon dioxide and water.

CH₃MgBr+CO₂ +H₂OCH₃COOH
