Well, although AIMA has never officially mentioned the reason or significance of having GK section, I guess the scores of GK section give them an overview about the candidate's knowledge on the subject and how well equipped he is in current affairs. On the other hand, they don't want the section to be a deciding factor for the candidates' qualification.
