Dear Aspirant,

Withdrawal Syndrome is a result of discontinuing a habit or discontinuing a dosage of some kind of drug or medicine. It generally happens when a recreational drug is overused for a long period of time and the body and mind forms a dependence on it to survive. Without the dosage, the person is not able to survive and carry on with their work. This can happen for various materials, from alcohol to antidepressants and can even be seen in infants who form a dependancy on their prenatal exposure to a substance which is also known as Neonatal withdrawal.

This is basically a discontinuation syndrome. This causes a lot of physiological as well as psychological disturbances in the body of the person. The symptoms differ from substance to substance. For instance, alcohol withdrawal causes, anxiety, sweating, depression, tremors, nausea, agitation and malaise. It can even cause delirium or dementia, altering the person's memory. Other symptoms for other substances might contain- Muscle aches, distortions of perceptions and body image, chills, lacrimation, running now and so on. The major symptoms which occur  with almost all substances are depression and inertia as this leads to a crash of central nervous system.

This is often confused for psychiatric conditions or vice versa so the diagnosis has to be quite proper.

Hope this helps. All the best!
