You should target a base rank of atleast 30000, if you want to study Mechanical Engineering in a NIT or a Top GFTI like BIT Mesra, IIEST Shibpur or PEC Chandigarh. For a rank of 30k you would require an approx percentile of 97.5. For this particular score, you perhaps should target scoring anywhere arould 140-150 /300. So there lies the strategy, you meed to score atleast 50% in JEE Main to secure your seat in a Good NIT of your choice in Mechanical Engineering. Most of the NITs have good infrastructure, faculty and research facilties.

To get a seat in NIT, one should atleast score more then 50,000 rank in the examination. 50,000 rank in means score more then 90. So, you should atleast score 90+ marks for getting a seat into NIT. All the newly established NITs have a demand of students scoring 90+ so try to be best with your marks so that you can get a seat in your expected college
