Percentile refers to you have scored more than how much percent of students. For eg there are 100 students, the topper stocking 100 percentile and you scoring 96 percentile. This means that the topper has score more than 100% other candidates i.e. All other candidates.

You have 96 which means you have scored more than 96% candidates. Which also means only 4% candidates have scored more than you. If total number is 100, then 4 people have scored more than you.

Thats the percentile system.
