Hello Ratnakar,

When an electric dipole is placed in an uniform electric field, it experiences a torque which aligns the dipole parallel to the direction of the electric field with zero net force.

The two charges of the dipole experience two forces of equal magnitude but in opposite direction. These equal and unlike forces give rise to a couple. This couple is what gives a torque to the dipole and rotates it in such a way that it aligns in the direction of the field. Once the the dipole is aligned in the direction of the field, the torque vanishes.

Hope this helps you. We wish you the best for your future endeavours!

Regards
