These start after certain interval after the results are declared. These can happen anytime between January to March depending on the date of declaration of results. Usually for Old IIMs they release their shortlists for interview after 5-20 days of the declaration of the results then they declare their dates. For Newer IIMs shortlist is released after one month of declaration of results and then interviews follow. For IITs the forms are open after the result declaration hence the interviews are usually conducted after an average two months of result declaration usually in March.

After you give your CAT exam every IIM and IIT in which you have applied prepares a merit list based on your aggregate score which comprises of many factors such as CAT marks, 10th 12th and graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non engineer, gender with different weightages for different colleges to call students for next round of interview and WSAT/GD.

This process of GD-PI generally starts at the end of February month and continue till the end of April. After your GD-PI round again a final merit list is made including interview and WSAT marks which along with CAT marks generally have highest weightage. This merit list is used to call students for admission.
