Pros:

1. As far as I know, all branches are of top quality and there will not be any compromise on the engineering knowledge which you will gain. The professors are really friendly and helpful. When I joined, Mechanical and CSE seats were selling like hot cakes.

Campus Recruitment is pretty good as long as you maintain good grades throughout the three years.

People will talk as though maintaining good grades is something blasphemous to ask for. Come on, life isnt that easy to get jobs with a mediocre GPA.

And yes, GPA matters from your placements to your suspension pardons.

2. Diversity. Loads of people from different parts of the country come under one roof. The college automatically calls for good interpersonal relations and builds communication skills. I had a complete transformation from school to college.

3. Good Crowd: There are some colleges where you would never want to study because of the people in it. In that case, Amrita offers you a bit of refinement or what people might call "the creamy layer". People are more approachable and have achievable ambitions in life. In my case, I had a wonderful set of friends who brought out the competitive spirit in me. Everybody were having a bigger goal in life like acing GRE, CAT and GATE exams.

4. Resources: In my first three years, Electricity and water was abundant. When the entire Coimbatore city was choked with 8 hours power cut, Amrita had just ten minutes. Water was abundant until recently all the bore-wells ran dry because of monsoon failure. So, a part of the 2 Lakhs what you spend will go into these henceforth.

Why I added this? There are some colleges where there is no backup for electricity and water comes for one hour every 2 days. We didnt have to worry about standing in the queue for water or losing our temper over power cuts. Life is peaceful. Basic necessities are met.

5. Weather: Once you visit the campus, people fall for the serenity and the climate. The campus is sprawling, absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Summers are extremely hot. Winters are cool and pleasant. Rainy days are wonderful too.

Again, other colleges down south are extremely harsh and really, really hot. Coimbatore weather is pleasant and calm most times of the year. This actually gives a totally calm and relaxing mindset.

6. Sports: Really gained importance over these four years. The gyms are really well maintained. State-of-art Olympic Swimming pool is a must-visit during summers. Cricket, Football, Hockey is encouraged.

7. Food: Not many like the mess food, but I love it. Maybe because I love to see variety of food in front of me.

But with what i have heard, mess food is MUCH MUCH better than any other mess food in any other college. To neutrally rate the food - survivable.

Canteens are a level better than mess food, not much of a difference though. There are dhabas outside college for non-vegetarians which are really good for dinners during the weekends.

8. Holidays: I can guarantee, we have the least number of working days in a semester compared to any other college. Every festival is a part of Amrita culture and holidays are way too many.

9. Library: Loads of books, very peaceful, love to sleep there.

10. Girls (Cant imagine this has become an USP!)

11. Loads of places to visit in and around Coimbatore. People in college go to Ooty, Kodai, Wayanad, Bangalore, Aleppey, Kochi, Mangalore and even to Goa during festival holidays. With great friends and great places come great stash and great liquor!

But all these come with a price:

1. Subjects will be tough and challenging. Serious effort has to be put in to maintain grades. It is actually a good thing, but not many people will vouch for that. Supplementary and Arrear exams are shitass expensive to re-register. People say college is minting money in arrear exams fees- Come on, you should have studied better during normal exams.

2. No Internet: Yes, we are taken to the prehistoric era once you swipe your biometric card at the main gate and enter the campus.

No free wifi, no LAN, restricted access to internet in labs.

Internet labs have super fast internet but crazy procedure to access it. Not worth it.

However people use netsticks and laptops are a must from second year. For me, not a big issue as I used bare minimum internet in my first year. Phone internet was sufficient. But that should change I guess.

3. There are people with very low ambitions. They can be dangerous and prevent others from succeeding. Example: preparing for higher studies. You have to set your priorities right and work towards it.

4. Again, resources are dwindling. No water and Electricity right now. Hope for the best.

5. Restricted permissions to attend tech-fests. Cultural fests-strict no. Even security guards are more powerful than students. Some sort of an informal moral policing happens. But all these come up only if you do something stupid with your girlfriend INSIDE the campus.

6. Girls are literally tied down to their hostels. Very restricted access to girls to even go out of college.

7. Mess Food: Above average. Canteens, below average.

8. Friends in other private universities will talk about their resources and opportunities which might put you on the downside considering the number of cons. But it really should not matter. It is almost the same situation everywhere
