The counselling usually proceeds through several steps in institutes like IITs, NITs, AIIMSs etc. where many sibling institutions are present. In such institutes you will have seat allotment for which you will get notified online. Then there is document verification process for which you should be present at the centre.

In other admission procedures of single institutes like SRM or VIT, where they call you to counselling for one institute rather than complex process of choice filling, mock and real allotment you have only one step counselling and should present physically at the centre with required documents.
