KVPY consists of questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Biology.There are three fields in this exam -SA, SX,SB.The SA stream is conducted for class 11 students and the syllabus includes class 10 and class 11 topics.The important topics are given below :

Physics - Ray Optics, Electromagnetism,Thermodynamics, Simple Harmonic Motion

Chemistry - Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding,Chemical Energetics, Stoichiometry,Gaseous state,Basic organic chemistry

Mathematics - Quadratic Equation,Progression and Series, Permutation and Combination, Coordinate Geometry

Biology - Plant and Human Physiology,Diversity of Living organism ,Reproduction and other life processes,Heredity and Evolution

SX stream is for Class 12 students and the syllabus includes class 10,11,12 topics.Important topics are given below :

Physics - Electrostatics,Heat and Thermodynamics,Current & Electricity EMI,AC Kinematics

Chemistry - Chemical Kinetics, Electro chemistry , Aromatic Compounds, Coordination Compounds ,d and f block elemets

Mathematics - Quadratic Equation, Coordinate Geometry,Calculus,Vectors and  3D, Trigonometric Functions

Biology - Diversity of Living organism ,Control and coordination in plants,Genetics and Evolution

SB stream is for first year students of BSc, BS and integrated MSc or MS programs.The syllabus includes topics from class 10,11,12 and first year of basic sciences and BSc .The important topics are given below :

Physics - Electrostatics,Heat and Thermodynamics,Current & Electricity EMI ,AC Kinematics

Chemistry - Chemical Kinetics, Electro chemistry , Thermodynamics,Chemical Bonding ,Alkenes,Cycloalkenes, Dienes,Alkynes

Mathematics - Quadratic Equation, Coordinate Geometry,Calculus,Vectors and  3D, Trigonometric Functions

Biology - Diversity of Living organism ,Control and coordination in plants,Genetics and Evolution
