When it comes to engineering the IIT's are the best in the country. IIT Madras stands number one in the country. After the IITs the NITs would be a good choice. You may also consider a few IITs. If it comes to private colleges, I would suggest Anna university in tamilnadu, Manipal , VIT etc.,
