Hi.

It cannot be determined which of the two courses will offer you "great future" and "salary package" but here is a comparison between the two to aid your decision:

Biotechnology B.SC

Overview of B.Sc. Biotech: B.Sc. Biotechnology is a three-year undergraduate degree. B.Sc. Biotech usually deals with the basic and applied aspects of Biotechnology that are primarily related to human health. The focus of this degree is to study the biological processes and how they can be used for the betterment of mankind. In B.Sc biotechnology you will directly learn about your core subjects. Of course, you will also get exposure about other science subjects but your course will have maximum papers from your honours paper.

Possible jobs:

  • Biomedical Engineer
  • Biochemist
  • Medical Scientist
  • Biological/Clinical Technician
  • Microbiologist
  • Process Development Scientist
  • Biomanufacturing Specialists
  • Business Development Manager

Biotechnology B.Tech

Overview of B.Tech Biotechnology: B.Tech Biotechnology is a four-year undergraduate degree falling under the spectrum of Engineering. This degree focuses on employing living components and bioprocesses in engineering, medicine, and various other applications. It is technically oriented and imparts knowledge about the various physical and chemical processes that are used in these biological processes. In B.Tech biotechnology the main subjects start from second year and you will have a lot of laboratory work and more subjects. Biochemistry would be an important paper and you will also have to deal with many Differential equations.

Possible Jobs:

  • Information Technology/Bioinformatics
  • Waste Management
  • Bioprocessing (Agriculture/Food)
  • Chemical Laboratory
  • Drug and Pharmaceutical Research
  • Environment Control

I hope this helps

Good Luck

I believe unless youre very sure or inclined towards Research/Teaching or Academia, BTech would be a safer option, with large career scope and job prospects. With a BTech Degree, in future, with some skills, you may even have the option of shifting yoir Career Domain to Finance, IT, Analytics or maybe Consulting apart from MTech/PhD in Biotechnology, Industry and Research.

As far as BSc in Biotechnology is concerned, youve limited Career options. They be joining certain CSIR Lab as Project Assistant/Research Associate, you may pursue MSc, followed by PhD or maybe a Career in Research or Teaching, otherwise maybe prepare for certain Government Service Examinations.
