Which is better mechanical or marine engineering?

See, it totally depends on you. If you have a passion for Marine enhineerjng, you can surely go for it.

You can later do a one year course from any institute(The GME course) and explore the Marine field if you want to. The placement is also almost 100% sure in these cases.You can appear for GATE and other PSU exams.

You always have a mechanical degree and it is relatively easier if you want to shift ashore later.A mechanical engineering degree emphasises on the mechanical aspect of engineering which is the most important part when you serve onboard as a Marine engineer. Marine engineering involves the study of various non-important subjects but yes, imphasis is given on the mechanical part from 2nd year onwards.The placement scenario in Marine engineering colleges rightnow is not so good.
